Wheaton Swim Club to Co-Host Age Group State! 1/27/10
The Wheaton Swim Club is pleased to announce that we have been asked by Illinois Swimming to help host the Speedo 2010 Age Group State Championship swim meet! This is a great honor and the coaching staff is looking forward to showcasing our club. However, this year will be a little different in that we will be CO-HOSTING the meet with Patriot Aquatic Club at Stevenson High School. This means a shared work load and twice as many volunteers to help put on a great meet for the swimmers of Illinois! This is the first time in Illinois history that two teams have teamed up to co-host a championship meet. However, it is NOT the first time that PAC and WHTN have worked together to host meets. We are extremely excited to combine the talent pools of two great teams, along with the finest facility in the state to run a great meet! Since this will be a co-hosted meet, most of the administrative work will fall on the coaching staff. However, we will still need a contribution or time commitment from EACH family on the team in order to run a great meet. Our team will be responsible for providing timers, concessions workers, admissions volunteers, and hospitality workers throughout the meet. We will also be looking for donations for concessions and hospitality. Please consider at this time how you can help! If you have a special connection (local restaurant, etc) that you think could be helpful, please contact us! MORE DETAILS
Haiti Spare Change Drive 1/27/10
Wheaton Swim Club will be hosting a Spare Change Drive starting on Monday, February 1st through Friday, February 5th. All proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross to help the Haiti Earthquake Victims. Starting on Monday, February 1st coaches will have jugs with them at practices to collect any spare change swimmers bring. The group with the most change per person will win the contest. Winners will receive a special prize at their practice on Thursday, February 12th. In addition, there will be an opportunity for Mystery Matchers to match the final funds of each or any group. All Mystery Matchers will be kept anonymous; we already have two of them! If you would like to be a Mystery Matcher, please email lauren@wheatonswimming.com or jacob@wheatonswimming.com

Thanks to all of you that stopped by on Saturday to check out the sportswear. Everyone seems to like the new styles and quality of the products selected. As a reminder, about $4 or $5 per item will go to support the National team’s travel so we very much appreciate your support. One thing to note is that the sleeves on the Womens’ Windbreaker jacket seem to run a bit on the short side. Please consider ordering a size larger or the Mens’ Windbreaker jacket in the appropriate size. The order form can be found here, and more information about the items can be found here.
Andy Rose and Bryan Bateman Memorial Caps 12/18/09
As many of you know, Illinois Swimming tragically lost two of its coaches last week - Bryan Bateman (Head Coach of Hornets Swim Team) and Andy Rose (Head Coach of Palatine Swim Team). The teams competing in Academy Meet will be trying to raise funds for the memorial funds of each of these two great coaches, whom many of you know. The host team has created swim caps with the name "Andy" in PPD colors on one side and "Beanie" (Bryan's nickname) in Hornet colors on the other. All profits from these caps will be split among Bryan's and Andy's memorial funds. Our hope is to raise $5000 total for the funds. The coaches of ALL TEAMS would like each swimmer participating in this meet to wear this memorial cap at the meet. It would be a great tribute to these coaches for EVERYONE to be wearing the same caps throughout the meet. If you do NOT want a cap, and are swimming in the Academy Meet, please email us by December 28. Otherwise we will post $7.50 to your team account, and you will receive your cap at the meet. (The team will also be making a separate donation). If you are not swimming in the meet, and WOULD like a cap, please email us by this deadline as well. Additionally, more caps will be available at the meet for sale. Please contact the coaches with any questions! Photos and full details * Andy Rose Memorial Details
Special Thank You to Wheaton Parents 12/14/09
The coaching staff would like to say a very special thank you to all our team parents (and siblings, friends, etc) who helped in so many ways this weekend. We all remarked at what a willing community of volunteers we have this year, including many many new families of younger swimmers. We were overwhelmed by the drink donations which were given. Thanks to your generosity, we now have nearly enough beverages to cover our Father's Day Meet (in June) - no donation will be wasted!! Thanks again; we are looking forward to a very bright future at the Wheaton Swim Club!
NCSA Juniors Meet Flight Info 12/4/09
The team has reserved a group flight for the NCSA Meet in Orlando Florida. The coaching staff will be taking this flight, and we would like to encourage as many swimmers (and family members) to use this group booking as well. The cost is $277 and we need a minimum of 10 people to get this rate, and have reserved a maximum of 15 spots. We need commitment to this flight by December 30, 2009. To commit to this flight, please fill out the attached information sheet, along with a check payable to Wheaton Swim Club for $277 by Tuesday, Dec 29. The flight will leave after school on Monday, March 15, 2010 and will return on Sunday morning, March 21, 2010. IHSA Girls State Results 11/23/09
Congratulations to all 13 Wheaton Swimmers who swam in the IHSA Girls state meet. Wheaton Swimmers had many life time bests, and achieved several new NCSA Junior National cuts and NCSA Bonus cuts! Special congratulations to those swimmers who qualified for finals in what was a very deep and competitive meet: Caroline Change (7th, 200 medley relay; 10th, 100 breast). Mary Floren (9th, 100 breast). Meredith Sweeney (6th, 200 medley relay; 9th, 200 free relay; 10th, 100 back; 5th, 400 free relay). And Sara Taege (10th, 200 I.M). Check out our updated High School Swimming page. We are looking forward to seeing all of you back at practice soon, and wish all of our boys good luck as they start their IHSA seasons.
Spectator Reminders11/2/09
Parents and swimmers please review the Specator Guidlines (on the Practice Info page) for the pools we use. Specifically, Wheaton College asks that we not block the windows on the track, or the north or west sides. These spaces are shared with the college and community and they are to be kept clear. We welcome parents to observe practice from the pool balconies at any time. We also encourage families to join the Sports and Rec Center at Wheaton College, so you can take advantage of the weight room and track.
Meet Tips For New Swimmers 10/13/09
Swimming in your first meet this weekend? Check out Tips of the Trade for new swimmers. Also please note that the Ten and Under Time Trial Meet is a "home" meet and therefore a true team effort between the coaches, swimmers, officials and parents. Each of these groups has their job to do, and meets are impossible without the support of one of them! At the Wheaton Swim Club, coaches not only work with the swimmers at the meet, but also run all aspects of the meet from set up, to computer issues, to volunteer coordination, to tear down. Therefore it is important to have great support from volunteers and officials, and for swimmers to know what they should be doing at all times during a meet.
New Gold Practices Added 10/12/09
We are pleased to announce that the Gold group will have Wednesday night practices offered at no charge from 6-7:30 approximately 2-3 times per month. You can see the specific dates on our Team Calendar - the first offering will be this Wednesday (Oct 14). We hope many of you can make it. Thanks to Wheaton College for their flexibility in helping us add this additional practice time for our swimmers.

Swimsuit Update 9/22/09
Effective Oct 1, 2009, both USA Swimming and Illinois Swimming will be enforcing the new suit rule, which prohibits the use of full body suits, and prohibits suits made of non-textile fabrics (which aide boyancy) . If you are purchasing a new suit and have a question, please contact your new suits. Keep in mind that suits may no longer extend past the knees for male or femal swimmers. Suits may no longer extend above the navel for male swimmers. Please read the exact wording of the rule on the USA Swimming site.

Team History Page Updated 10/31/07
Did you know? The Wheaton Swim Club was formed in the fall of 2004. Check out our team's history and accomplishments by clicking the Team Info link above or visiting our new Team History page! New: The History page has been updated with conference champs, state champs, and relay state champs. The coaches noticed that the 11-12 girls have won 9 of a possible 12 relay state championships since 2005, and that Wheaton Swimmer Connie Hsu has won 35 State Championships (26 individual and 9 relays)! This has to be close to some sort of record!
