A transfer with ISI (Illinois Swimming, Inc.) is mainly a record-keeping method. It helps ISI keep track of athletes and ensures that there is only one set of records (results) per swimmer. You can imagine how confusing it would be if there was more than one set of meet results for each athlete.
Transfer procedures are also designed to reduce the occurrence of "club jumping." Club jumping refers to families who are trying to avoid past due amounts or unpaid bills with their old team by switching to a new team.
Who must complete an ISI transfer?
Any swimmer for whom the most recent team with which they registered was any team other than WETN. Any swimmer who competed most recently with WETN does not need to complete a transfer.
This only applies if you registered with another ISI team. Park Districts, Country Clubs, High School Teams, etc. are exempt.
How do I complete this process?
The preferred method is to fill out a transfer form at registration and to pay at that time. Make checks payable for $10 to the Wheaton Swim Club (you can add this to your regular fees) and we will pass a lump sum on to ISI. If you miss registration, you may either write us a check and mail us the forms, or you can contact ISI directly. We prefer that you deal directly with us to save ISI the work of having to process many forms separately.
What is my "last date of competition?"
Your last date of competition refers to the last time you competed in an ISI "On-Schedule" meet representing any team. These include all ISI Championship Meets (JO's, Sr. Champs), plus any Open Meet which was listed on ISI's Official Meet Schedule. Conference Meets, Dual Meets, YMCA Meets, etc do not count towards this date. If you swam unattached at any meet, that does not count towards this date either. WITHOUT KNOWING THIS DATE AND SUBMITTING IT TO ISI, YOU WILL REMAIN UNATTACHED INDEFINITELY.
What does it mean to be unattached?
Any swimmer who transfers
teams must compete for 120 days unattached. This means you may not score points
for our team or compete on relays until the 120 days has been completed. This
does not mean you must sit-out any meets, only that you must be officially listed
as an unattached swimmer in the meet entries and results.
