FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HANSEN TO HELP KIDS SWIM FOR A CURE!

Olympic Medalist, Brendan Hansen, will be in the Chicago area to conduct a swim clinic while helping raise funds to fight leukemia!

Wheaton, IL – November 28, 2005 – Olympic Medalist Brendan Hansen will support swimming in Illinois and help raise funds and awareness for the Leukemia Research Foundation by executing a unique instructional clinic for swimmers on January 14, 2006 from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Wheaton College.  The clinic, hosted by Wheaton Swim Club, will be a great experience for all those able to attend.

The Ultimate Technique Swim Clinic presented by USA Swimmer.com will feature in water-stroke and technique drills, an instructional session on dryland training and a motivational talk plus Olympic stories for the participants.  Brendan feels, “this is an opportunity of a lifetime.  I have always wanted swimming to have an ambassador to travel throughout the United States and excite swimmers, parents and the community in general about the great sport that I have dedicated my life to promoting and I now have that opportunity.”

Brendan, who is an Olympic Gold Medalist and the fastest breaststroker in history said, “When I was these swimmer’s age, I would have done anything to meet an Olympic Champion, hold their medal and listen to their advice.  I have been blessed and I want to share my experiences with as many swimmers as possible.”

Brendan also serves as a national spokesman for the Leukemia Research Foundation, a Glenview, Illinois-based organization that provides research grants to scientists and researchers worldwide searching for a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and other blood-related cancers.  “I’m proud to do whatever I can to support the efforts of the Leukemia Research Foundation which has been serving its mission for 60 years now,” Brendan said.  “Leukemia is the number one cause of death by disease for children up to age 14 yet it’s diagnosed 10 times more often in adults than children.  Funding research to find a cure is really the only permanent solution.”

The Clinic is $60 per swimmer if you register by January 2nd and $70 after that date which includes instruction, in water drills and an autograph.  Proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Leukemia Research Foundation.  Registration is limited to the first 200 swimmers.  To register for the event, go to the Wheaton Swim Club website at www.wheatonswimming.com.  For more information on the event or interviewing Brendan, contact Nancy Bertschy at 630-585-6378.
