Congratulations to Wheaton Swimmer Connie Hsu who established two state records this weekend. Conne broke state records in the 400 IM in a time of 5:17.61 and in the 200 fly with a time of 2:27.74. Way to go Connie!! (Link to ISI Records).

Congratulations to Wheaton Swimmer Taylor Zafir who broke a STATE RECORD in the 200 breast (15-16 girls) while swimming at Jr Nationals. Her time of 2:14.09 broke the old record of 2:14.22 set by Ashley Wandland of PAC at the recent Speedo Sectional meet. It is also believed to be the fastest time ever swum by any Illinois swimmer under the age of 18! (Link to ISI Records)

Congratulations to Wheaton Swimmer Connie Hsu who broke a STATE RECORD in the 200 fly (11-12 girls) this past weekend at Sr Champs. Her time of 2:10.54 broke the old record of 2:13.45 by nearly 3 seconds! (Link to ISI Records)

Meet Entries Posted: WHTN Meet 5/9/08
Meet entries for our home meet (Father's Day Team Challenge - June 13-15 at UIC, Chicago) are now posted on the Meet Info page. Please visit our Home Meets page for full details about the meet. We are pleased to welcome 18 teams from 4 states this year! Also note that many WHTN swimmers have not yet turned in a meet sign-up sheet. This meet is very full, especially for the 13 & Overs, so please turn in your sign-up sheet as soon as possible!


Traffic Update: Wheaton College Graduation 5/8/08
On Thursday May 8 and Friday May 9 from 8 am - 5 pm, and on Saturday from 8 am - 12 pm (noon), Chase St. (in front of the pool) will be a one-way street from the north side of the Beamer Center to Kenilworth. This is being done to help traffic flow with students moving out of the dorms and also guests attending alumni celebrations.


Practice Update 5/7/08
We have been able to negotiate a bit of extra pool time on Mondays and Wednesdays at Wheaton College. Therefore, we please to announce that the Gold and Pre-National groups will start at 4:00 and finish at 5:30 during Session II on Mondays (instead of 5:15). The Senior and Pre-National groups will start at 4:00 and finish at 5:30 during Session II on Wednesdays (instead of 5:15).All other practice times will remain the same for those groups. All groups please remember we are now on the Session II schedule!


Lifeguard Class Offered 5/6/08
Wheaton College will be offering a lifeguard certification to future guards aged 15 & older. Please see Full Details on the Wheaton College website.


Speedo Sectional Meet Update 5/1/08
Please visit the updated Summer Sectional Page for many new items! We have now posted a Basic Itinerary, an Estimated Cost Report, a List of Qualifiers, and much more! This is one of the most exciting meets our Senior Level swimmers prepare for, and it will be held in Brown Deer, WI this summer. Special Note About Spring Sectionals: The billing for the 2008 spring sectional meet has been completed and we came in a bit under budget. All swimmers will have $70 credited to their accounts for that meet.


National Team Travel Information 4/30/08
National Team Swimmers please review the Travel Information for the end of season meets for this summer. Please also RSVP to Bob the meets you will be attending as soon as possible (click for a List of RSVP's). We need to have plans finalized by June 11, so please start planning now! (There are also links to these 2 documents under "Tools For the Season" to the right).


Practice Schedule Reminder: Session II 4/30/08
Please remember that Session II begins on Monday, May 5. Please visit our Practice Schedule change for the new schedule for your group. Please remember that all practice changes are posted on our Team Calendar.


Pre-National Practice Option 4/30/08
The Pre-National group will have the option on Friday, May 2 to attend an early practice time from 4:30-6 p.m. at Wheaton College. Swimmers unable to attend may still swim at the regular time from 6-7:30 at Wheaton College.


Coaching Staff Update 4/23/08
The coaches would like to welcome Sharyl Damhorst to the coaching staff. Sharyl will be working on a part time basis with our blue, bronze, and orange groups. She will also be working with our Swimming Lessons program in the summer! Sharyl brings a wealth of coaching experience to the program (read her bio on our Coaches page) and we are very glad to have her aboard.

Session I Practice Update 4/23/08
With the early conclusion of the Wheaton College Water Polo Season, we have the ability to offer a bit more practice time to our national team and junior national team. The National Team will swim from 530-745 at Wheaton College on April 23 (Wed), April 28 (Mon), and April 30 (Wed). The Junior National team will offer an early option of 430-630 at Wheaton College on April 28 and April 30 (Mon and Wed). Junior National swimmers who cannot attend this earlier slot may practice with the national team on those 2 dates. These changes are also now posted on our Team Calendar. Note that the Session II practice schedule will begin May 5.


Banquet Recap 4/23/08
Many thanks to the over 250 swimmers, family members, and friends who attended the Team Banquet last weekend. We hope everyone had a great time - the coaches definitely enjoyed the chance to celebrate this year's swimmers and their accomplishments. Please note that we have several awards, ribbons, and team photos left over which can now be picked up in the team office. Special congrats to this year's Special Award winners! Male and Female Senior Swimmers of the Year: Dan Doran and Kara Field. Age Group Swimmer of the Year: Emily Ward. Spirit Award: Joy Xue and Gabby Mathys. Sportsmanship Award: Amy Smith. New Olypmic Trials Award: Taylor Zafir (100 breast). We would like to post photos of the winners online, so please email them to us at your convenience. We would also like to congratulate our 14 graduating seniors. We will be doing a full recap of your college choices shortly!


Meet Sign Up Reminder 4/9/08
Please remember that several meet sign ups are due very soon! All swimmers should bring their meet sheets with them to the first practice if possible! You can print a Meet Sign-up Sheet or (for the first 2 meets only) email your coach to sign up!


Final Rankings: Wheaton is #1! 4/4/08
Now that all our meets are concluded for the 2007-08 Season, we would like to congratulate ALL our swimmers on helping Wheaton Swim Club earn the #1 Overall Ranking in the state of Illinois! USA Swimming calculates a score based on swimmers of all ages (up to 18) giving each swim a certain number of point (each swimmer may be used in 4 events, and each event is allowed 2 swimmers). Wheaton scored 182,640 points to out distance the second ranked team by about 8,000 points!!! Our team is ranked 7th in the central zone, and 39th in the USA! Check out the results on Toyota Virtual Club Championship on the USA Swimming site (to perform the search, select the "Specific LSC" of Illinois, or the "Specific Zone" of Central)!


Coaching Staff Update 4/3/08
The coaches would like to welcome Liz Hennessy to the Wheaton Swim Club Staff! Liz will be working with the blue, bronze, and orange groups, and brings a wealth of swimming experince to the program. Having trained under Wheaton Coach Bob Strube, Liz was a Junior National and Senior National qualifier! Please read her full bio on our Coaches Bios page. We would also like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to Erin Albright and Terry Depew who added so much to our program over the last 3 years.


NCSA Junior National Results Posted 4/2/08
Final Results from Junior Nationals are now posted! Please check out the fansastic swims achieved by Wheaton Swimmers on the Meet Results page. Overall, the Wheaton Men finished 11th (highest finish in Illinois) and the team finished 20th (second highest in Illinois)! Wheaton swimmers also established 28 new team records, including 18 individual records and 10 relay records! Congratulations to our Juniors Team!!


Children's Swim & DIve Lessons Info Posted 3/31//08
Full and updated information for 2008 summer lessons is now posted! (click Swim Lessons above, or follow the direct link to our Lessons page). We offer a full range of lessons, including group lessons, private lessons, diving lessons, adult lessons, and more! Our lessons are all held indoors, so no worries about cancellations or cold pools! Please spread the word to your neighbors and friends! This is also a great chance for our older swimmers to get involved in their community - we have many available job opportunities teaching lessons (full details coming soon - see coach Bob in the mean time!)


Summer Planning Calendar 3/29//08
A preliminary planning calendar for the entire spring and summer is now available! The coaches have posted this as a convenience for our members to help get a head start on what will be a busy and exciting summer! Please note that the meets included are all preliminary and that the finalized meet schedule and meet sign-up sheet will be posted on the meet info page next week. Please take some time to review the Summer Planning Calendar before the season starts!


Age Group State Wrap-Up 3/17/08
Congratulations to all Wheaton Swimmers who participated in the Age Group State Meet this weekend! The team finished THIRD overall in a very exciting team point race, and had individual state champs & runners up in five out of the six age groups! Special congrats to State Champs Jason Hasenberg (200 IM, 100 back, 100 fly, 100 IM, 200 free), Mary Floren (100 free, 200 free, 500 free, 100 breast, 200 IM), Connie Hsu (100 IM, 200 fly), Michele Howley (100 breast, 200 breast), Collin Hogan (100 back, 200 back), and the 13-14 girls 400 medley relay (Connie Hsu, Michele Howley, Tori Bertschy, Julia Roller)! Thank You Wheaton Parents 3/17/08
Many thanks to all Wheaton parents, friends, siblings, and swimmers who volunteered their time and effort this weekend at the Age Group State meet. The coaches were very proud of the entire Wheaton Swimming community who helped host a first rate meet for the State of Illinois! We know that we cannot run such great meets without you!!!!


High School State Results: Honsa is State Champ! 2/25/08
Congratulations to all 11 Wheaton Swimmers who competed in the IHSA State Meet. Special congrats to finalists Chris Depew (200 medley relay), Matt O'Brien (200 free relay, 400 free relay), Peter Flight (200 medley relay), and Bryant Honsa, who finished 4th in the 200 free (1:40.42) and 1st in the 500 free (4:28.95)! Updates are now posted on the High School Swimming page!


Team History Page Updated 10/31/07
Did you know? The Wheaton Swim Club was formed in the fall of 2004. Check out our team's history and accomplishments by clicking the Team Info link above or visiting our new Team History page! New: The History page has been updated with conference champs, state champs, and relay state champs. The coaches noticed that the 11-12 girls have won 9 of a possible 12 relay state championships since 2005, and that Wheaton Swimmer Connie Hsu has won 35 State Championships (26 individual and 9 relays)! This has to be close to some sort of record!

Nationals Update: Schaffer and Zafir Qualify for Olympic Trials 8/6/06
Congratulations to Wheaton Swim Club and Princeton swimmer Will Schaffer who qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 200 IM this week at the USA Swimming Senior National Championships in a time of 2:06.79. Will also finished 23rd in this event at Seniors while representing the Wheaton Swim Club. NEW! Congratulations also to Taylor Zafir who achieved an Olympic Trials Cut in the 200 breast. This is her second cut, as she adds this event to the 400 IM. Check out how Will and Taylor, plus Danielle Herrmann, Lauren Zafir, and Katie Johnson are doing on the USA Swimming site! Wheaton Swim Club will now have 2 swimmers represent the team at the 2008 Olympic Trials in Omaha, NE.
